Torch Capacity Manager

Torch Capacity Manager (TCMTorch) is a historical database performance management system used by Unisys ClearPath OS 2200 systems for long-term workload trend analysis and capacity planning. By examining historical performance data, a performance or capacity-planning analyst can more accurately anticipate future system and resource needs.

Torch combines key performance data from multiple sources into one comprehensive and integrated database. Torch produces graphic statistical reports that summarize performance data according to specific workloads – data needed to make sound decisions about future capacity.

The baseline Torch product includes the following Interface (data collection) Agents:

Torch/SIP – reduces SIP data by reading one or more SIP cycles and producing an SIP-INTERVAL output file.

Torch/MFD – gathers statistics and produces reports related to mass storage usage. It can also be used to input data into Computer Associates MICS product.

Torch/STAR – extracts and reports statistics from Formula Consultant’s Star-1100 Tape Management System. It can also be used to input data into Computer Associates MICS product.

Note: Torch/MFD and Torch/Star data are not currently integrated into the Torch performance database. They cannot be reported through Torch/Report.

Torch Capacity Manager Interface AgentsTorch Interface Agents provide additional data that can be integrated into the Torch performance database. You must have SightLine Torch Capacity Manager in order to execute the Torch Interface Agents listed below.

Torch/IO – A Torch module that reduces I/O Trace data. Torch/IO reads an I/O Trace tape and produces an IOT event file labeled IOT-EVENT. The file contains a detailed summary of the I/O Trace data from which Torch/IO produces I/O distribution reports.

Torch/Alog – A Torch module that reduces Master Log File (MLF) or system log data. Torch/Alog is used to reduce ASCII Log cycle.

Torch/TPM – A Torch module that reduces TIP Transaction Performance Monitor (TPM) audit trails and High Volume Statistics (HVSTATS) data.

Torch/MAPPER – A Torch module that reduces MAPPER data by merging data from multiple MAPPER systems into the same database.
